Rantings of a Burger King Employee

So I was scheduled to work on the 4th of July from 5-11 pm. Minus the fact that they ruined the plans I had, I was okay with it.
^
(what everyone should be doing on the 4th; fast food should close on holidays- be nice to the workers who have to make your food- we'd rather be partying too)

Until I realized: I'M NOT EVEN MAKING MINIMUM WAGE!!! I'm not 18 yet, so they can pay me "training wages" for 3 months. I wouldn't even mind that so much except for the fact that I was never really "trained" on anything. It was basically "Watch these videos about how to make sandwiches, even though you won't be making them, and when I ask you to make coffee, or a smoothie, you'd better know how"... so yeah, there was no training. I don't speak for all Burger Kings (I hope) when I say that there is no organization. We give out so many free food coupons simply because the 'cooks' take so long to make the food (or they don't make it correctly the first time), and the people getting out the food forget to put something on they tray.

It super bothers me when someone tells me to, for example, let the customer know that there is a wait on fries, so I do that, and then they feel like I didn't do it good enough (?) so then they decide to tell the customer again. I'm sure it's also annoying for the customer, and that's what I work with all day.

So back to the 4th of July... Burger King ruined my plans. Second of all, there were many more crabby people than normal (during the rush times)

When I was on drive through we kept getting car after car of people. (This was right before the fireworks started), there was really no end to the cars in sight, and we had only 2 people back making the food. (We were very short of workers). This lady in the drive through pulls up to the window and is yelling at me because "I've been in this drive through for 15 minutes and you were really rude to me when you were taking my order. You didn't apologize for me waiting! I thought this was a FAST food restaurant..." blah, blah blah.  And I'm thinking:

"I can't make the food be made any faster, so there is no use yelling at me." and second of all, I was certainly NOT rude. I say the same thing for every car. "Thank you for stopping at Burger King, what can I get for you today?" in as pleasant of a tone of voice as possible. (As pleasant as a less-than-minimum-wage worker can be.)

And also, she was not waiting for 15 minutes.  I have a timer that times from the second I ask what I can get for them to the second they leave. She was around 8 minutes. Also, I know she couldn't have been waiting for 7 minutes for me to ask what she wanted because the headset beeps in my ear until I take their order, and there is NO way I would've had it beeping in my ear that long.

So here's to you, mean, ugly lady: some advice: When you are nice to people, they are nice back to you. What goes around comes around. Since you are so old I though you would know that... When customers are nice to me, I give them extra fries, or make their ice cream cones bigger. When they are crabby like you I give them cold fries, and not very many.  Although new fries came out right fresh for you, because we were so dang busy. I got you your food on the 4th of July, when I really should've been at home or the beach or watching fireworks. You're Welcome.

Go to McDonalds next time. We don't want you.
